  • Magnolia Update

A fellow gardening neighbor gave me this Magnolia back in April & she has doubled in size since I transplanted her into this wooden tub 3 & 1/2 months ago!

They are slow growers and she won't be a sizable tree or bloom for many years to come but for me a Southern garden is just not complete without one!

  • I so admire and yes, if truth be told, envy you and everyone else who can grow things. I, personally, have never met a plant I couldn't kill. I try. I talk to them, I give them water, do soil test, mist and fertilize all to no avail. Good luck with your little tree. May she grow tall and prosper (or whatever).

  • She's one lucky little plant to end up in your garden!
    *sparkle

  • Pretty healthy looking Magnolia you have there!

Pfft, wish my neighbors were more giving with their plants. They're just being neglected on their front lawns.

  • My neighbor has one and my grandmother had one too.  I love them and their smell.  Mmmmm

  • She's really liking her new home!

  • Wow what a beautiful little plant. I have some 3 lace leaf maple that I had in pots. Two of them have made it now I put them in the ground. One died too dry this Summer and too many changes in weather. Judi

  • ^_^ it's amazing what new soil can do.

  • cool ... thought about planting one in my back yard.

    looks very healthy.

  • What a lovely plant, it will be well worth the wait when it finally does bloom. I have not planted many flowers or shrubs, but i do have a veggie garden that i am proud of.

  • One of the things I miss about living in Virginia is the smell of Magnolia in the morning.....It was always comfort to me

  • That is goign to be a beautiful tree.

  • What a healthy, green and beautiful Magnolia tree~!!! All good things to a gardener are worth waiting for, yes. I don't know what tree is essential for a Northern Gardener. A Maple to turn lovely colours in the Autumn, perhaps. I know we do love our Orchards, so Apples are a good choice. Lilacs are plentiful in Spring, and for the adventurous, a Mock Orange.

My new neighbour gave me a good bunch of Phlox. They are just hinting to bloom now. Things were late with a cold spring, but the uncharacteristic cool nights we have been having are great for extended blooms in almost everything.

    Blessings~

  • Its beautiful green and erect.Magnolia seems to be growing well in this wooden tub. Nice choice of using wooden tub for it.

  • I do love magnolias, but they flower so early and are finished so quickly (here anyway) .
