  • For Now

    Feeling like shattered urban neon

tomorrow I will be much less

ever so normal but now in

this blink I have become liquid cool

    sealed effervescent against time

    that shall never be again.

Here's a long shot of the entire tree. Tomorrow I will spend some time shaping and pruning her. These are tropicals and despite the fact that they die back in winter here I am very pleased with how well they have already come back this year. I have one on each front corner of the house.

  • Expectations & Surprises

The Crepe Myrtle is blooming a little ahead of what I know her schedule to be.

The bark begins to peel right before the buds emerge.

This signals the growth of the tree and the coming blooms.

I noticed she had begun to peel about 5 to 7 days ago.

She's relatively large and quite happy in her spot between the houses on the East.

I was very pleased to discover her there after I moved in.

...And now for a little game!

    Can anyone identify this plant?

I have two growing in the front flowerbed with the Greenmound Juniper and one in the kettle in back with the Pink Skullcap. They are all volunteers & I haven't a clue what they are or even where to start in identification. Thought I'd give my fellow Xangan Gardeners a chance at the prize before I take a cutting to the local greenhouse this weekend.

  • Angel Wings

One of my gardening friends gave me these

     Angel Wing Begonias last summer

I wintered them over in the office window and now they

are back outside and in bloom!

When the blooms first open they resemble Bleeding Heart.

The petals hand downward and have a heart-like shape.

When they are mature and open they have this more orchid-like structure.
